Our Campuses
The University of Pretoria
Founded in 1908 as a satellite campus of the Transvaal University College (itself established in 1906), it became an independent, Afrikaans-medium institution in 1930 under the name University of Pretoria.
The University of Johannesburg
UJ is the youngest of the three, formed in 2005 through a merger of the Rand Afrikaans University (founded 1966), Technikon Witwatersrand, and parts of Vista University.
The University of the Witwatersrand
Founded in 1896 as the South African School of Mines in Kimberley, it moved to Johannesburg in 1904 and became the South African School of Mines and Technology. It was granted full university status in 1922, becoming the University of the Witwatersrand.
