2024’s City Conference theme was “Umfanekiso” - In His Image-Shattered|Restored
Around 250 students joined us for this event across the three campuses!
The Conference ran from Friday afternoon-Saturday evening at Willow Country Lodge, in Pretoria East. Rynhardt De Bruin, the Lead Pastor of the church we partner with in Pretoria, Red Door Church, was our conference speaker.
Friday we started with food, had some time to hang, a quick get-to-know you with Rynhardt and ended things off with a Dance Party. Saturday began with students exploring the city surroundings and having some fun with one another. They came back to the Lodge for lunch, another session with Rynhardt and break out sessions around relevant topics to the South African university student. More games and a lovely dinner followed by one final call to the students to make their lives count in the kingdom of God and back on the campus. The schedule was packed full and the students left having had fun and being challenged with the gospel.
Khula Project!
From the end of November- early December, several of our staff take roughly 70 students down to Unvongo, KZN for what we call the Khula Project (which means ‘to grow’ in isiZulu). At KP, each student receives intensive training in Christian leadership & development in the context of studying the Bible, discipleship groups, evangelistic outreaches and church partnerships. With this model we hope to help students grow in their faith in a holistic way. This unique environment creates opportunity to lay down deep roots in their relationship with God and is a catalytic step in developing the next generation of Christian leaders.
The theme for the Khula Project in 2023 was Kindgom Minded. Themba, the project director, walked the students through a journey of understanding what it means to live a life that is Kingdom Minded. This being a life that is centred around Christ and glorifying Him in all that we do. We focused on the book of Hebrews and our theme verse for the Project was Hebrews 12:1-2.
The students, alongside the leaders, also had a few opportunities to go and share the gospel with the community of Port Shepstone. Paired with our trainings are times of fellowship and socials, and different team outings which help build a sense of community on the project.
